The Benefit of Sports for Our Healthy

Sports not only nourish the body, but also nourish the brain. A new study even suggests that parents who regularly perform exercise of moderate to vigorous levels are less likely to develop lesions of the cerebellum, which is commonly called the "Silent Stroke".

The study involved 1238 people who have never suffered a stroke. Participants completed a questionnaire about how often and how intensely they exercise at the beginning of the study. Then they have to run a brain MRI scan six years later, when their average age was 70 years.

As many as 43 percent of participants reported they did not exercise regularly, 36 percent engage in regular light exercise, and 21 percent engage in regular exercise in moderation. Brain scans showed that 197 participants, or 16 percent, has a small brain lesions, or infarcts, known by the name "Silent Stroke".

People who engage in intense exercise, 40 percent less likely to suffer a silent stroke than people who do not exercise regularly. These results also remained after researchers accounted for other risk factors such as vascular problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking.

However, there is no difference between those who engage in mild exercise and those who did not exercise.

The study was published in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology as quoted by Times of India pages.
